Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Clamp Down on Social Media Use Among Officers
To ensure discipline and professionalism, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have officially banned the use of social media by all police officers across the province. A directive was issued to all Regional, City, and District Police Officers (RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs) to enforce the prohibition, which aims to curb distractions during duty hours.
According to the official statement, platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and even WhatsApp are now off-limits for police officers on duty. The decision underscores the department’s effort to maintain focus and prevent officers’ potential misuse of social media, which has become a growing nationwide concern.
This move follows a series of incidents where police personnel were found violating these guidelines by uploading inappropriate content that compromised the department’s professional image and the safety of other officers.
The Central Police Office has emphasized the necessity of this ban, citing that unchecked social media activity not only undermines the police department’s reputation but also poses security threats. RPOs and DPOs have been tasked with taking departmental actions against any personnel breaching these standard operating procedures, ensuring the integrity and safety of police operations throughout the province.
The KP police’s decision mirrors a similar step taken by the Punjab police on September 13. The Punjab police barred officers from expressing personal, political, or religious views on social media without prior approval from their district or unit heads, according to a directive issued by the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Operations.
