Pakistan Press Foundation

On July 8,  a poetry recitation session was held in Khyber to honor the literary contributions of the late tribal journalist Khalil Jibran. The gathering, held near Jibran’s home, saw participation from local poets, writers, and civil society members who condemned his murder and called for an end to violence in the region.

Jibran, known for his peace-loving and nationalist views, was commemorated through poetic tributes that reflected his passion for poetry and advocacy for regional peace. The attendees, comprising local poets, writers, and political workers, also voiced a strong protest against his violent demise, demanding justice and calling for a cessation of hostilities in the area.

The session also included appeals for a meaningful dialogue between state authorities and militant groups to establish lasting peace. The community expressed their frustration over the continuous targeting of Pakhtuns and implored the state to take decisive action against militancy and extremism to safeguard their region.

Jibran was murdered on June 18 in a violent attack that saw him shot 19 times by unidentified assailants near his home in Landi Kotal’s Mazreena area. The attack followed multiple threats and three previous attempts on his life.
