Khuzdar Press Club president’s son slain

By: Mohammad Zafar

QUETTA: Gunmen attacked the two sons of a journalist in the Khuzdar district on Thursday, killing one of them and critically injuring the other, police officials said.

ASI Abdul Raheem told The Express Tribune that the two sons of Khuzdar Press Club president Allah Bakhsh, better known as Nadeem Gurgnari, were attacked by unidentified gunmen on motorcycles. One of his sons, Siraj Ahmed, died on the spot, while the other, Manzoor Ahmed, was seriously injured in the incident, Raheem added.

Police and Frontier Corps personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. The deceased and the injured were taken to the Khuzdar Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

“Manzoor’s condition remains critical,” hospital sources informed. “The motive behind the attack is still uncertain… Police are investigating the matter,” said ASI Raheem.

No group has claimed responsibility for the killing.

Khuzdar’s has been highly volatile for close to a month. Fear has brought all life and commercial activities in the district to a grinding halt. While the province itself has proved highly unsafe for journalists, Khuzdar in particular is seen as a ‘red zone’ due to frequent attacks on them. KPC has also been locked since the killing of journalist Abdul Haq on September 29 this year.

Haq also served as KPC’s general secretary.
