Kharian nazim to face no-trust

GUJRAT, Aug 07 2006: Around 48 elected representatives of the PML will table a no-trust requisition with the Kharian tehsil council on Monday to ouster tehsil nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira of the PPP, it is learnt. Tehsil nazim Nadeem Kaira, who had applied for a 30-day leave, has now postponed his scheduled visit to Norway. MNA Wajahat Husain and district nazim Shafaat Husain had convened a meeting at Nat House on Aug 06 that was attended by several political heavyweights of Kharian tehsil. It was unanimously decided at the meeting that 48 members would table a no-trust move against Kaira.

At a similar meeting on July 11, Wajahat had taken signatures of 24 proposers and as many seconders on papers related to the no-trust move. The Kharian tehsil council comprises 61 members and a two-third majority is needed to ouster Kaira. According to the Local Government Ordinance, one proposer and one seconder are sufficient to table a no-trust move. The ordinance reveals if the move remains unsuccessful, both the men will be disqualified. It further reveals that the elected men will cast votes through a secret ballot.

It is to be mentioned here that Rahman Naseer, Naeem Raza and Mian Tariq had developed differences with Shahs of Qulewal Syedan following denial of tehsil nazim ticket to Mian Tariq. The Chaudhrys had allotted the ticket to Noorul Hasan Shah who had to face defeat by a margin of two votes owing to an internal rift among the Leaguers.

All groups have apparently patched up with each other owing to the efforts made by Wajahat and Shafaat. Except Shahs of Qulewal Syedan, the Marala, the Kotla and the Dinga groups had been asking the Chaudhrys to first nominate the candidate for the slot, then they would launch the no-trust campaign against Kaira. But the Chaudhrys feared if they announced the candidate first, the differences might be cropped up again and the move would not be successful. That was why they had asked the groups and the Leaguers to first make the move successful, then they would announce the candidate.

Due to this controversial situation, Wajahat had made 24 proposers and as many seconders to take definite results. It may be mentioned here that around 48 members had rejected the council budget presented by Nadeem Kaira in June. The no-trust move will be tabled on this ground. The meeting was in progress till the filing of this report at 7pm.
