Karachi :The journalists community would observe, ‘Demands Day’ against the Press, Newspapers, News Agencies and Books Registration (amendment) Ordinance 2007 and the Pakistan electronic Media Regulatory Authority PEMRA (third amendment)2007 on Friday all over the country.

The decision to observe Friday as Demands Day was taken by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), and all its related bodies will comply with the decision. Under the programme, protests will be resumed, as the struggle for the withdrawal of these anti-media ordinances as well as against the registration of cases against 78 journalists in the Interior Sindh under Anti-Terrorism Act, which the PFUJ considered as attack on freedom of the press, the PFUJ secretary General Mazhar Abbas said. The PFUJ directed all the journalists to organise protest demonstration to express solidarity with the journalists facing anti-terrorism charges in the Interior Sindh. All private TV channels have resumed their transmission but with tough conditions, censorship, interference in the editorial contents, which negate the so-called claims of the government of the freedom of the press, the PFUJ maintained.

The global signature campaign date has also been extended from January 25 to January 30, the day when election of Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) is scheduled.
