KARACHI: The film censor board has decided to censor films that are to be released on CDs and DVDs in Karachi. Film Censor Board of Pakistan (FCBP) Vice-Chairman Khalid Butt announced this decision at a meeting with the Video Merchants Rainbow Centre Association (VMRCA) held Thursday at Rainbow Centre in Saddar.

According to details, the decision was taken in view of the tendering facility for the applicants who keep the legal rights for screening a film after they get the copyrights for the films they release. These applicants have to go to Islamabad to get the film passed by the FCBP. Karachi leads all other cities in the number of films released in a calendar year and Rainbow Centre is the largest among the film-releasing markets in Asia. VMRCA President Saleem Memon lauded the FCBP’s decision and expressed hope that the board would continue providing facilities and certificates for screening after the necessary censoring jobs are issued. FCBP’s Syed Ahmed Hassan and Amjad Ali Masoomi and VMRCA’s Zahid Javed, Khalid Sadaf and Zaheer Qureshi also attended.
