JS Bank case SHC orders TV channel to submit reply by May 7

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought reply till May 7 from ARY TV channel on the contempt of court petition filed against it by JS Bank.

Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqi heard the case. According to details, JS Bank has made ARY Chief Executive Salman Iqbal and anchor Mubashar Luqman as respondents in the case of leveling misleading and baseless allegations against it.

The applicant claimed Rs5 billion damages, adopting that ARY TV programme titled “Khara Sach” aired baseless and contemptuous allegations against it on June 25 and 26.It said the programme caused irreparable damage to credibility of the institution; therefore, the respondents be restricted from doing so.

The high court had issued stay order against the respondents but they continued their derogatory campaign against the complainant. Upon violation of court orders, the respondents were issued contempt of court notices.

They later sought time to submit reply and during Tuesday’s hearing, their lawyer told court that they are going to submit affidavit with new documents, so they be granted time to submit final reply.

JS Bank lawyer Barrister Khalid Javed Khan raised no objection and the court accepted the respondents’ request for time and adjourned hearing till May 7. The complainant also appealed to the court that baseless allegations against it be declared lie and the programme in question be removed from ARY website and social media. It also appealed that the respondents be restrained from airing baseless and misleading content against JS Bank in the future.
