Journalists urged to do duties honestly

LAHORE (January 30 2009): The Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Iqbal Ahmad Khan here on Thursday said that two communities, lawyers and journalists had launched an epoch struggle for the removal of the dictator. Speaking in function to honour new union of the Lahore Press Club, he averred that journalists should endeavour to do their duties with honesty.

He said that Islam is the religion of peace and they believe in no war. He said they would emerge as a strong nation and nobody should be pessimist about it. He said democracy would survive in the country. Answering a query that how the democracy would thrive when the current inflation, electricity, gas, CNG bills were constantly on the rise and people were sick of that, the Speaker said, things would improve.

To a question, why should people of Pakistan pay for the loans of IMF and the World Bank, when these loans were not spent on them, he replied everybody knows where the money went. Speaking on the occasion, the Lahore Press Club newly elected president Sarmad Bashir said that they had asked the authorities to hand over the developed facilities of the Lahore Press Club Society by April this year.

He said the wall of the societies would be built in February this year adding that they had hired a person for litigation matters pertaining to the press club colony. Zahid Abid secretary of Lahore Press Club, Zaheer Shahzad president Press Gallery, Mahmud Malik secretary Press Gallery and a number of journalists were also present on the occasion.
