Journalists stage walkout from NA
ISLAMABAD: Journalists staged a walkout from the press gallery of the Lower House of parliament on Monday to record a protest against three different acts of tyranny against the journalists’ fraternity, Daily Times has learnt.
As the National Assembly resumed proceedings after a two-day interval, the journalists staged a walk out from the press gallery against separate incidents in which reporters and cameramen were threatened and physically tortured by provincial ministers in Karachi, a cameraman of a TV channel was tortured by police in Lahore, and two journalists were detained by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir police in Bhimber. At this, Interior Minister Rehman Malik made a commitment to seek an inquiry report on all three incidents of violence against journalists and promised to submit the report in the House.
