‘Journalists should always follow ethics’

KARACHI: A renowned journalist Zubeida Mustafa has said that journalist should always follow ethics and emphasized that there should be no compromise on the basic principles of journalism at any stage.

She stated this while addressing an event organisd by Women Media Center (WMC) to pay tribute to her in recognition of her contribution to Pakistani Journalism. The event was organised at WMC premises, where senior journalist Ghazi Salahuddin, veteran journalist Nazir Leghari, Khursheed Haider and many female journalists paid tribute to Zubeida Mustafa and celebrated her achievements and services to Pakistani Media. Other participants of the event included students from various media Institutions and WMC.

“It’s not my claim that I am the first one who brought females in the field of journalism, instead I paved the way for them. She said it was true that there was a difference in thinking perspective of male and female but there were numerous males in the field who are helpful for women. She disclosed that she faced an offensive response from a particular group of people when she wrote about breast cancer who claimed that she was writing about obscenity. She added, “But my editor supported me in this regard”.

While talking about current state of journalism in Pakistan she expressed that she was upset about current status of electronic media and the contents being produced. An Achievement Award was also given away to her by Fauzia Shaheen, General Secretary WMC.

She said that Zubeida’s achievements was an example for other people who want to bring about change in journalism.
