Journalists, politicians and friends pay tribute to late Arif Nizami

ISLAMABAD: Journalists, politicians, academicians and authors on Tuesday paid tribute to the founding editor of The Nation and Pakistan Today, Arif Nizami.

The memorial webinar was organized in the memory of renowned journalist and thinker, Nizami, under the auspices of Dr Nadeemul Haq, the vice chancellor of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Islamabad.

Former minister Jahangir Tareen shared stories of Nizami sahab going through tough times yet staying always composed. Aitzaz Ahsan remembered him as a professional journalist and loyal friend.

Senior politician Farhatullah Babar, Special Assistant for Information Rauf Hassan, Dawn News CEO Hameed Haroon, renowned anchorperson and senior analyst Aamir Matin and senior reporter Mehtab Haider attended as guests.

At the beginning of the webinar, Dr Haq displayed a documentary film based on the memoirs and photographs of Nizami’s life in which various aspects of his life were highlighted.

Rauf Hassan appreciated his valuable services to the country and the nation individually and collectively. Farhatullah Babar said that Nizami is the name of a bright era of media, his services are unforgettable.

Aamir Matin and Hameed Haroon highlighted the memorable events of the moments spent in the media family with Nizami. They said that Nizami will be remembered in the media as a teacher and educator for a long time. His services are unforgettable.

All the participants appreciated the Nizami Memorial Webinar organized by PIDE and agreed that they would work together to carry out his mission and follow in his footsteps for free media and responsible journalism. His friends also said that he was always an editor and never a proprietor.

Dr Haq endorsed that this webinar was to cherish the memories and legacy of Nizami.
