Journalists demand release of kidnapped colleague

PESHAWAR: Journalists of Peshawr on Thursday expressed concern over the kidnapping of a senior journalists urging the administration to take necessry steps for his receovery. The journalists also appealed to the kidnapers to immediately release Sohail Qalndar, a senior journalist and resident editor of national daily. Sohail was kidnapped on January 2,2007 along with his friend Niaz Muhammad. The Hayatabad police found Sohail’s car a few hours after his kidnapping. The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUj) and the Peshwar Press Club (PPC) office bearers held a joint emergency meeting on Thursday to review the situation, and formed an action committee to formulate a strategy for his safe release. Senior journalist Shamim Shahid is the committee chairman, while Peshawar Press Club President M. Riaz, Ansar Abbas and Ziaul Haq are its members.
