Journalist killed, another injured in road accident

KARACHI: A senior journalist working with Urdu daily Dunya was killed and his colleague injured in a hit-and-run accident in Korangi, from where they were going to their office on a motorcycle on Sunday evening.

The Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that the two senior subeditors were travelling on a motorbike when they were hit by an unidentified car driver near Bilal Chowrangi.

They sustained critical injuries and were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Syed Mohammed Jamil, 40, was pronounced dead while Syed Farhan Haider Naqvi, 40, got admitted for treatment.

The newspaper’s senior reporter Abdul Jabbar Nasir told Dawn that Mohammed Jamil and Farhan Haider were on their way from their homes in Landhi and Korangi to their office when the unidentified car driver hit them. The deceased was married with children.

The injured Mr Naqvi is stated to be a close relative of prominent religious scholar Shah­enshah Hussain Naqvi.

The Korangi Industrial Area police said that the errant driver escaped from the spot along with the vehicle.

Man living alone found dead

A man living alone was found dead in Ibrahim Hyderi on Sunday evening, said police.

They added that the body of the man identified as Mohammed Ali in his 60s was recovered from a home near ‘Moscow’ company in the area.

The man had died several days ago, said area SHO Raza Solangi.

His wife had passed away around one year ago and since then he had been living alone, added the officer.

Apparently, there was no mark of any injury.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil legal formalities.
