Journalist complains of harassments

KARACHI, March 13, 2006: A senior journalist on Sunday lodged a complaint with Defence Police Station that his house had been robbed.

Rasheed Channa stated that criminals took away his computer, CDs, some of his personal files, documents and valuables, including Rs4,000 in cash.

He, however, claimed that it was not a case of robbery as the culprits had taken away only the PC, some
personal files, CDs and newspapers clipping. He said the incident took place when he had gone for an evening walk.

On his return, he said, he saw a Honda car parked at the gate of his flat complex and a middle-aged man wearing shirt and trousers coming out of the building. The car left soon after.

He said the side door of his flat was broken and he found his computer, CDs and some valuables missing. Rasheed Channa, s senior reporter of Daily Star Karachi, claimed that he had received threats from Muhammad Ali Arain, Special Secretary to Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, a few days ago for publishing stories about corruption.

The journalist said that he had faced a similar situation in July 2005 when ‘plainclothes’ men took away his computer, CDs and personal files.
