Journalist beaten by Traders in Bhakkar

BHAKKAR: April 21 2006: A correspondent of daily Nation/Nawa-e-Waqt was beaten by traders as he filed a report on encroachments and corruption in Bhakkar on April 3, 2006.

According M Shabir Rao, correspondent daily Nawa-e-Waqt/Nation, 9 fellowmen of Abdul Hakeem Mughal, Traders Association chief at Bhukkar halted him in the way and beat him with lather strips (hanters) and sticks and also beaten his son when he reached at spot and tried his father save from the traders. Later on, Police reached on the spot and took both parties to Police Station, where two trader who were arrested with lather strips (hanters) and sticks were locked up, but released afterward. Journalist alleged that the traders snatched his mobile phone and wallet and threatened him for dire consequences in case of any further move.
