Journalist assaulted

Karachi – Syed Ashfaq, a staffer of The News sustained serious injuries when a shopkeeper and his accomplices, totally without provocation, attacked him near the Land Mark Plaza on I. I. Chundrigar Road within the Preedy police jurisdiction on July 6.

According to details, Ashfaq had parked his motorbike near a teashop, where a milk seller’s shop is also situated. The milk seller brusquely ordered Ashfaq not to park his motorcycle there. When Ashfaq argued with him, he was drubbed severely by the milk seller, leaving him grievously bruised, eyewitnesses said.

As the articulate young journalist recovered from the drubbing, he tried to reason out with his attacker asking him why he had been hit in that savage manner but before he could get the answer, dozens of the shopkeeper’s accomplices, pounced on him and injured him with hard and blunt objects.

The injured was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where medico-legal experts said that he had suffered serious injuries, including nasal bone fracture. The matter was reported to the Preedy police.
