Jamat attacks obscene channels
MULTAN – Activists of Shabab-i-Milli (SM) and Jamat-i-Islami demonstrated against cable network operators for running obscene and vulgar channels at Kumharanwala Chowk on August 30.
More than 200 people, including Hafiz Aslam, Mirza Arz Baig, Muhammad Hanif, Irshad Husaain, Ghulam Abbass and Rab Nawaz Chavan participated in the demonstration. “We shall not let cable operators do as they please. They run obscene channels that mislead the youth. We’ll continue to struggle against them,” Hafiz Aslam Ali a JI leader said.
The protestors also burnt tyres to block traffic and shouted slogans against the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), the government and law enforcement agencies. Addressing the protestors, the JI leaders criticized the government alleging that cable operators were showing obscene stuff with the connivance of PEMRA.
