Jalil urges women to enter journalism

Karachi: City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil urged women to enter the field of journalism as it would help them focus on woman-based issues and fight ills like violence against women.

She expressed these views at the concluding session of a three-day media training workshop, “Reporting on violence against women”, as chief guest at a local hotel on Thursday.

She said that the exploitation of women was common in our society and stressed that women should educate themselves so that a healthy society could be established. She said that civic issues could be resolved through betterment in political and education sectors.

Jalil urged the media to highlight the issues faced by women and added, “Those involved in violence against women cannot be brought to justice if the media did not highlight these crimes.”

As many as 35 female journalists and students participated in the workshop. Later, Jalil distributed certificates amongst the participants. The APNS Secretary-General, Dr Jabbar Khatak, HRCP Vice-President Ghazi Salahuddin, former Federal Minister Barrister Shahida Jameel, senior journalist SM Fazal and Women’s Media Centre Executive Director Fauzia Shaheen were also present on the occasion.
