IT project named after Arfa Karim

KARACHI: Acknowledging the achievements of the late computer prodigy Arfa Karim Randhawa, the Sindh government on Sunday named its IT Media City after her.

An announcement in this regard was made by Sindh Information Technology Minister Raza Haroon, who said the IT Media City, Karachi, had been renamed as Arfa Karim IT Media City, Karachi.

The IT Media City is a project of the Sindh IT department that aims at developing a modern media city in Karachi. It is spread over 200 acres off the Superhighway on a link road.

He said Ms Randhawa (1995-2012) was a Pakistani student and computer prodigy who in 2004 at the age of nine became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional in the world, the title that she kept till 2008.

Meanwhile, various leaders paid tribute to Arfa Karim, who died on Saturday.

In his condolence message, Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain said that with her death the country had lost the world`s youngest IT expert.

Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri expressed her grief over the death of the youngest IT professional and said children like Arfa pave the way for other children and her achievements would remain a beacon for all Pakistani children. She said Arfa Karim had made Pakistan proud with her achievement by becoming world`s youngest programmer.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed said Arfa Karim would always be remembered by children as a role model.
