ISLAMABAD: The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has criticised the Pakistani government for getting tough on the media and has called for the implementation of its mission’s recommendations, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Secretary General Mazhar Abbass told a press conference here on Wednesday.

He said the IFJ, in its report on working journalists in Pakistan, had lauded the courage and determination of the PFUJ for its struggle for the rights of journalists and freedom of expression. Abbas said the report urged the government to lift a ban on the media and revoke two anti-press freedom ordinances implemented by the caretaker government.

“The IFJ recommendations also focus on the restoration of independent media to ensure fair and balanced reporting and implementation of the seventh wage board award to strengthen relations between journalists and media owners,” he said.
