Islamabad rally seeks Aafia’s release

ISLAMABAD: A protest rally held at Aabpara Market on Sunday condemned the torture and incarceration of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in the United States and demanded her release and return to the country.

Jamaat-i-Islami secretary-general Liaquat Baloch, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, sister of Dr Aafia, and others urged the government to convey to the United States that no American would be welcomed to Pakistan until Dr Aafia was freed.

Dr Fauzia called for sustained efforts to get her sister released.

The rally, organised by Jamaat-i-Islami, was attended by a large number of people, including women and children.

When the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Q Islamabad chapter, Rizwan Sadiq, was invited to the rostrum people raised slogans and did not allow him to speak.

Mr Baloch said that Pakistan embassy in Washington and the foreign office in Islamabad should use all resources to get Dr Aafia released.
