Islamabad Police Chief Issues Notices to 11 for Allegedly Spreading False Propaganda on Social Media
The Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) has issued notices to 11 individuals for allegedly using social media to spread false propaganda to create “unrest” in the country.
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has summoned Sabghatullah Virk, Muhammad Arshad, Atta-ur-Rehman, Azhar Mashwani, Uroosa Nadeem Shah, Muhammad Ali Malik, Shahzaib Virk, and Musa Virk to appear before them on December 24. Additionally, notices have been served to Iqram Kathana, Taqweem Siddique, and Muhammad Noman Afzal.
The JIT is conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the motives and affiliations of the accused, with sources stating that more suspects are being identified and actions are being taken under the relevant laws. Evidence purportedly held by the JIT substantiates the charges levied against these individuals.
On December 6, authorities filed cases against seven individuals in Karachi for allegedly spreading anti-state propaganda and false narratives on social media platforms, including WhatsApp and X (formerly Twitter). The accused were identified as Muhammad Sohail, Muhammad Junaid, Sheikh Muhammad Ehsan, Tariq Jameel, Syed Rizwan, Muhammad Ahmed, and Babar Azeem. Efforts to apprehend the suspects are underway. This came after a similar operation the day before, in which 12 individuals were charged with comparable offenses.
