Islamabad Court Acquit PTI Leader Faisal Javed in Journalists Assault Case

Pakistan Press Foundation

On November 14, Islamabad’s district and sessions court acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Javed Khan of charges related to assaulting journalists and camera operators. The court presided over by Judicial Magistrate Ehtisham Alam, concluded that the evidence was insufficient to support the allegations against Javed Khan.

The case stemmed from an incident on August 9, 2022, during a press conference by then-Senator Javed Khan. Allegations were made that PTI party workers had obstructed journalists from 24 News, Dunya News, and Dawn News from setting up their cameras and forcibly pushed them away for not including party workers in their frames. This led to a formal complaint being lodged against Javed Khan at the Bani Gala Police Station on August 10, 2022, culminating in his indictment by the same court on March 13, 2024.

Advocates Sardar Masroof and Amna Ali defended Javed Khan in court. His legal team successfully argued that the accusations were baseless and that no credible evidence linked Javed Khan to the alleged assault. After reviewing the arguments and evidence presented, the court ruled in favor of the PTI leader, leading to his acquittal.
