ISLAMABAD: Considerations are underway to allow the screening of Indian films in the country, said Senate Committee Chairman Zarar Iqbal Chaudhry.

He said the ban on Indian movies was ineffective, as the films were easily available on DVD and cable.

He said the ban needed to be reviewed, adding that consideration was being given to involve the Parliament in connection with allowing the display of Indian movies in Pakistan’s cinemas.

Iqbal said the ban on Indian movies would be lifted in a manner that insured intactness of the traditional, cultural and religious values prevalent in Pakistan, adding that an Indian film, Taj Mahal, had been released in the country in 2006 on a special permit from the president.
