ISLAMABAD (APP) – The Government of Italy will assist Pakistan in establishing the Human Rights Commission, which is in its nascent stages, to effectively address issues related to human rights.
The assurance was given by Italian ambassador Roberto Mazzotta who called on CareÂtaker Minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney here Monday.
The ambassador informed him that a human rights commission has already been working in Italy since long and Pakistan can benefit from its valuable experience.
The Caretaker Minister for Human Rights informed him that Human Rights Commission of Pakistan would soon see light of the day. “It will have independent members, having no political affiliations and they will be mandated to use all possible means to curb human rights violation from the society,” he added.
The minister said that Commission would be vested with powers to float valuable suggestions over the issues.
He said a number of concrete steps are being taken to tackle human rights issues besides, launching a vigorous mass awareness campaign.
“For this purpose a full-fledged ministry is created and all out efforts are being made to adopt and practice effective mechanism which is recognized worldwide,’ he added.
He said it is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that effective mechanism of international standards is being adopted to address human rights issues.
He informed that certain issues like human trafficking, child abuses and plight of prisoners languishing in jails for long time were also given top priority. The ambassador lauded the efforts of the Government of Pakistan.
