Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) organized three-day training workshop on Investigative Reporting for Pakistani journalists under the project Pakistan Investigative Journalism Fellowship in collaboration with Free Press Unlimited (FPU) which is taking place at a private hotel in Islamabad from Friday to Sunday, 27-29 August, 2021.

The training workshop is attended by Pakistani Journalist from all provinces of Pakistan.

The main purpose of the project is to develop a cadre of investigative journalists in cities as well as in rural areas of the country, to professionally investigate and report on issues relating to human rights, environment, inequity, governance, and corruption. The fellows were trained to use the RTI for gathering facts and creating authentic stories. Success stories of previous batches were discussed. The Trainer Umar Cheema discussed the impact of the stories, defined the methodologies of investigative writings and explained various angles of the story.

The characteristic feature of the fellowship program includes in-depth investigative stories including personal interviews, data and information received from right to information mechanisms by each fellow. Fellows will develop individual plans that will include writing, publication, or broadcast of between three to six stories.

Fellows are working under the supervision of a fellowship editor, who is a senior journalist and function as a mentor and guide them in the best practices of investigative journalism throughout the period of fellowship.

PPF induct eighth batch of sixteen journalists over three-month duration that oblige them to participate in two capacity-building workshops and to produce three to six stories throughout the fellowship. The workshops helped the fellows to understand how they will be working on the stories and overcome the challenges, stories of all the participants were discussed and each fellow practiced how they can gather information for their story and if their idea is workable and grab attention of the readers and stakeholders.

The efforts of Pakistan Press Foundation were appreciated by the fellows and they requested to continue similar fellowships that could benefit other journalists’ also.
