Internet connectivity to be improved after laying of SEAMEWE-4

KARACHI, September 15 2005: The Internet connectivity of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) subscribers will be further improved after laying of submarine cable SEAMEWE-4.

PTCL president and chief executive Junaid I Khan stated this while talking to the heads of corporate sector here on Tuesday September 13. Senior officials of PTCL were also present on the occasion.

He said the laying work of SEAMEWE-4 would be completed very soon. That would improve Internet connectivity in the country. He added the international consortium, which laid SEAMEWE-3 was responsible for the fault in the cable and not PTCL.

He said the PTCL has prepared itself for meeting all challenges of the competition in future and the company was taking comprehensive measures to provide value added services in telecom sector.

He pointed out latest telecommunication facilities were provided to subscribers at very economical rates.

Junaid Khan noted PTCL employees wou1d get better opportunities for career planning and training after UAE based firm M/s Etisalat would take over its management control.

He said no problem was facing Etisalat in taking over PTCL. It was a matter of financial transaction between Etisalat and Privatisation Commission. As soon as these matters were resolved, Etisalat would take over PTCL’s management, he added.

Responding to the problems facing corporate sector and their solutions suggested from their heads, Junaid assured them that those proposals would be submitted before next board meeting of PTCL.

He said the PTCL was paying high attention to its customers, and its senior officials have been meeting with respected customers on regular basis to redress their problems.
