Internet addiction

By: Dr Rabia Akhtar

Our youth is facing a multitude of challenges in the present era. Internet addiction, excessive social networking and online relationships are a few. These things sneak up on them in a very subtle manner until they become the primary focus of their lives. They neglect their school, career and family members.

What the yound people of our country need to realise is that Internet addiction and excessive social networking can give them only short term pleasure. Any kind of addiction gives an artificial sense of self-worth, power, control, security and intimacy. It worsens the problems and feelings they are trying to escape from. Our youth need to see that there is a fine line between using the Internet for their benefit and using it for temporary pleasure.
