Inquiry into survivor women torture

MUZAFARABAD, April 27 2006: Inspector General Azad and Kashmir Police Shahid Hassan on April 26 ordered an inquiry into torture and insulting of quake surviving women by local influential in LOC neighboring town Chakothi. Taking notice of news papers reports on severe beating up and torturing of quake affected women by land usurpers, IGP directed Deputy Inspector General Police (DIGP) Tahir Qayyum and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Yasin Qureshi to hold an independent inquiry into the incident.

The inquiry committee headed by DIG Tahir Qayyum will send a police team to Chakothi April 27 to meet and question the victims and people of town to ascertain facts about gruesome incident of the beating up of women in Bazaar after tearing their wreaths and clothes. As per eyewitnesses, a gang of land mafia supervised by a former local councilor Sharif compromising his three sons and 11 others severely beaten up and tortured eight quake surviving women in attempt to demolish an under construction shop to occupy the land forcibly.

Six including four women were injured in the clash as iron chains, daggers and sticks were used by them while beating women who cried for help but no come up to rescue them.
