In a first: ’48 Hour Film Project’ is coming to Pakistan
KARACHI: The world’s oldest and largest timed film-making competition is coming to Pakistan for the first time, stated a press release.
The 48 Hour Film Project (48 HFP) is a competition where people of all ages, skill and experience levels from all across Karachi will gather to create short films to compete for prizes, accolades and international recognition.
The competition will kick off on Friday September 28, 2018, where teams will be invited to draw random genres. The film-makers will then be required to submit their four to seven minute short film in the next 48 hours.
All films submitted will be premiered on October 13 and October 14 at Cinepax Cinemas in Karachi. Judges will then select the top 10 films and winners for awards in different categories.
The Karachi edition will be judged by Asadul Haq – one of the biggest names in Pakistan’s media industry and Nic Knowland – world renowned cinematographer famous for his work in John Lennon’s Imagine and 1997’s Jinnah. Other judges include Sanam Saeed and Imtisal Abbasi.
48HFP has been running in over 135 cities around the world spanning across six continents. It is a wild and sleepless weekend in which participants make a film – write, shoot and edit – in just 48 hours.
The film is then screened at local theaters in front of an audience of film-makers, friends and families.Winner of best film will go to Filmapalooza in Orlando this year and top films selected will be screened at the Cannes Short Film Corner 2019.
The 48 Hour Film Project’s mission is to advance film-making and promote film-makers. The competition is therefore, open to any and all film-makers whether they are aspiring to be one or have been making films professionally or even a hobbyist.Registration is now open.
