IHC restrains TV anchor from defaming Jang Group

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi on Thursday restrained a private TV channel anchor, Zaid Hamid and a senior journalist Mehmood Sham from printing, publishing or broadcasting any defamatory material against the Jang Group. The IHC CJ adjourned the matter till December 2, and directed the three respondents to submit their written statements before the court. The Independent Media Corporation (IMC), through its counsel Faisal Iqbal, Advocate, had filed a case against the above respondents.

The IMC had prayed to the court to restrain the respondents from levelling, printing, publishing or broadcasting any column, article, news, statement that is defamatory to the applicant.

The counsel stated that his client has a hardearned repute after struggle of years. He stated that a TV anchor had been running a malicious campaign against the applicant since October 25. The counsel stated Zaid Hamid and a senior journalist Mehmood Sham were also involved in this campaign. He stated the anchor had been levelling false and baseless allegations to defame his client. Therefore, the counsel prayed, the respondents may be restrained from propagating against his client.
