IFJ invites applications for Lorenzo Natali Prize

KARACHI: The International Federation of Journalists (IJF), has invited entries to the annual “Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism” — one of the world’s most valuable journalism prizes — recognizing the best of journalism in 2001, according to a message received here.

This year the prize will have a winner, specifically drawn from the Asia and Pacific region.

The Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism — excellence in reporting human rights, democracy and development — was established in 1992 by the European Commission to promote quality journalism as a bulwark of democracy and human rights. This organized by the IFJ, the world’s largest journalist organization, representing more than 500,000 journalists worldwide.

The Lorenzo Natali Prize is awarded to print and/or on-line journalists, who have demonstrated a striking insight and particular dedication to the reporting of human rights issues within the context of the development process.

This year a prize worth 10,000 euro will be awarded to a journalist in Asia and Pacific. The winner will also to Brussels for the prize-giving ceremony in November2002.

Entry forms are available form journalist’s organizations throughout Asia or at www.ifj.org or by contacting the IFJ Asia Pacific Project Office Entry is free and will close on Sept. 23.

Only the print/on-line journalists are eligible to participate in the contest. They have been advised to send their articles, published between January 1 and December 31, 2001.

Applicants have further been advised send their applications (clearly marked Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism) to the Delegation Office of the European Commission in the applicant’s country or to the International Federation of Journalists, Asia -Pacific Project Office.
