HYDERABAD: Reinstatement of editor demanded

HYDERABAD, January 03 2006: Sindhi Adabi Sangat secretary-general Taj Joyo and women writers have demanded reinstatement of the editor and the joint editor of literary journal Sarteeyoon, published by the Sindhi Adabi Board.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Monday January 2, Mr Joyo and noted writer Amar Sindhu warned that they would launch a protest movement against the secretary of the board throughout Sindh if the editor and the joint editor were not reinstated. Rehana Channar, Najma Shaikh and Salma Gulzar were also present.

They alleged that publication of an objectionable word in the November issue of the journal was a conspiracy to suspend the editor and the joint editor. They said this could be verified by producing the computer operator before the inquiry committee.

Ms Sindhu said it was not a personal issue of an individual but suspension of the editor and the joint editor was aimed at pressuring them.

Mr Joyo and Ms Sindhu claimed that the secretary of the board had admitted that publication of the objectionable word was a computer error.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Sindhi Adabi Board, Raaz Shahani, in a statement issued here said the secretary of the board had no powers to remove or reinstate the editor and the joint editor of Sarteeyoon.
