Hyderabad Press Club delegation calls on Sindh chief minister Present govt fully believes in press freedom: Shah

KARACHI: A five-member delegation of Hyderabad Press Club (HPC) Friday called on Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House here.

The delegation apprised the chief minister about the problems of the club and issues pertaining to allotment of land for residential colony of HPC members.

Shah while talking to the delegation informed that the present government fully believes in press freedom. He said that the problems facing journalists would be resolved on priority basis.

The CM stated that Hyderabad is an ancient and historical city of Sindh and the journalists and mediamen are fully devoted to highlight the problems confronted by the masses, for the progress and prosperity of the country.

He further said that the journalists and mediamen by discharging their professional responsibilities are performing the role of coordination and a bridge between the government and people.

Shah said that the present government has allotted 75-acres of land for HPC on discounted rate. He also accepted the invitation by the club’s office-bearers for a visit and assured that during next visit he will come to the club and meet the journalists.

The chief minister assured that plots would be given to journalists on discounted price to be paid in easy instalments. He also congratulated the newly elected body of HPC.

Earlier, the HPC office-bearers thanked the present government, particularly the Sindh chief minister who had approved housing scheme for HPC members and added that all members of the club will be allotted a plot of 400 square yards each.

The office-bearers of HPC said that after a period of 40 years, the present elected government has approved a housing scheme for the journalists of Hyderabad. The delegation also apprised the chief minister about other problems.

Special Assistant to CM Waqar Mehdi, Secretary Information Sindh Syed Safdar Ali Shah, Press Secretary to CM Allah Bachayo Memon and Nazar Muhammad Baloch of Board of Revenue Sindh were also present, while the delegation of HPC included Jaffar Memon (president), Altaf Koti (general secretary), Ali Hasan, Lala Rehman and Mukesh Kumar.
