HYDERABAD: Dadu withholds Jamshoro’s funds

Sources in the Jamshoro district government said that the Rs123.3 was the district’s share which Dadu had to give it after its bifurcation on December 14, 2004 ahead of local government elections in 2005.The amount was determined on the basis of population, which came around 34.5 per cent of funds i.e. Rs123.3 million but the Dadu instead of transferring the amount used it up on carrying out developmental schemes in the district.
Jamshoro DCO Ejaz Mangi had conceded the fact in a meeting with Sindh special secretary local government Mohammad Siddique Memon held on May 3, 2006 in Karachi.

The meeting was called under the directives of chief secretary to decide financial dispute between the two districts which arose in the wake of bifurcation, sources said and added that DCO Dadu had agreed to hand over record on the liabilities and funds to Jamshoro at the meeting.Following the district’s bifurcation on December 14, 2004 Dadu withheld details of records on funds, liabilities, vehicles, movable and immovable properties to Jamshoro and did not even communicate to the new district the closing balance of non-lapsable account-4 of Jamshoro although Dadu had Rs356 million closing balance at that time, sources said.

Adviser to Sindh chief minister on finance called another meeting after two more years on November 11, 2006 to discuss the financial issues of the district and urged Dadu to clear its liabilities. But the district continued to delay the release of funds for one reason or another and had not paid till this day, sources said.Sources said that on Friday adviser to Sindh chief minister on finance directed secretary finance to ensure payment of funds to Jamshoro district following a representation sent by Jamshoro District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar seeking provision of Rs123.3 million funds in the light of minutes of meeting dated May 3, 2006.
