HRCP for review of labour cases, tribunals
LAHORE: The whole system of labour courts and tribunals needs to be reviewed if the goal of expeditious and fair adjudication of labour cases is to be realised.
This was the main recommendation of an expert group comprising trade union representatives, lawyers having specialty in labour cases and civil society organisations that met on Thursday and whose findings have been released by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).
The meeting was of the view that the working of labour courts and tribunals could not be viewed in isolation from the state’s attitude towards the rights and problems of workers. It seemed the government had little time to address labourer’s grievances.
Separately, the HRCP Lahore chapter, in its monthly meeting, condemned the murder of Professor Dr Shabihul Hasan and urged the Punjab government to hold an inquiry into the incident.
