HRCP demands release of STP men
LAHORE: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Thursday urged the government to release three office-bearers of the the Jeay Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STP) – Sachal Gopang, Qurban Gopang and Musa Sheikh – who had been missing after they were allegedly stopped by Rangers at Hala checkpoint in Hyderabad on Wednesday. According to eyewitnesses, the three men were beaten and blindfolded before being taken away to some undisclosed place.
The HRCP expressed deep concern on abduction of the STP office-bearers. The commission urged the government to release the detainees immediately if they were in custody of law enforcement agencies without a lawful justification. They said the families of the detainees should be allowed to meet them and they should be provided access to lawyers. The HRCP also demanded that the detainees should be protected from torture or any other ill treatment while they were in detention. They said the detainees should be dealt with according to the law and be provided medical medical facilities.
