HRCP concern
KARACHI: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has expressed concern over the forced marriages of two minor girls on an order of a jirga and demanded stern action against the culprits.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the HRCP observed that the holding of a jirga had already been declared illegal by the Sindh High Court in 2004. The judgment was promptly executed and the brides were sent to the houses of their husbands after nikah.
It urged the government to take notice of this flagrant violation of court orders and initiate legal proceedings against the culprits for holding a jirga.
