Honour-killing case: Man booked for nephew’s murder

By Imran Ayub

KARACHI: A man was booked by the Mauripur police on Tuesday for killing his nephew for “honour”, police said.

They said that the body of a young man was found in a desolate place in Musharraf Colony within the remit of the Mauripur police station late on Monday night.

Mauripur SHO Inspector Malik Salim told Dawn that it seemed that the victim, identified as 24-year-old Imtiaz Ali, was killed a couple of days ago and the body was later thrown in the bushes. The victim was stabbed to death and wounds on the body showed that he was attacked with a dagger or an axe, he added.

He said that the victim’s father, Allah Dino, lodged a case (FIR 471/2009) against the deceased’s maternal uncle, Bachal, under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Mauripur police station. He said Bachal was also blamed for the killing of his daughter-in-law in his hometown, Kandhkot, a few days back.

The SHO said that initial investigations suggested that the suspect, Bachal, and the deceased, Imtiaz, both scrap dealers, were living together in a rented house in Musharraf Colony. A few days ago the suspect complained to the victim’s father about his son’s relationship with his daughter-in-law in Kandhkot, where Imtiaz had gone frequently to meet his wife and children, said the police official.Bachal also alleged that he had reports that Imtiaz had paid many visits to the house of his daughter-in-law in Kandhkot, he added.

The police believed that Bachal first killed his nephew and then went to Kandhkot where he allegedly murdered his daughter-in-law in a case of “honour-killing”.
