HEC declares 604 legislators’ degrees genuine
ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has checked for authenticity degrees of 658 members of national and provincial assemblies while authenticity of 370 degrees is yet to be ascertained.
HEC official Dr Rahim Bux Channa said on Sunday that out of the total verified degrees, 604 are genuine while 54 are declared invalid or fake and 18 cases are pending in courts.
“370 cases of verification of degrees are being delayed due to non-submission of supporting documents, including forms and matriculation and intermediate certificates by members of parliament and provincial assemblies,” Channa added.
He said at the present there was no deadline given for degree verification and the process would continue until degrees and required information was received from the concerned universities. Channa said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had written letters to the speakers to direct members of assemblies to provide the information they had been asked for.
