A severe heatwave is likely to hit central parts of the country from May 15 onwards, Pakistan Meteorological Department warned on Thursday.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Director-General of PMD Dr Ghulam Rasul said: “We expect a high pressure system will develop in central parts of the country in the second half of this month which will lead to a severe heatwave.”
As temperature rises, city goes into preparatory mode
Urging Pakistanis to brace for the worst, he said: “India started reporting deaths caused by heatwave since last month and so far, the death toll has soared to 300. No doubt, this is a clear warning for Pakistan to prepare for a similar situation.”
Last year heatwave claimed over 2,000 lives in India before hitting Pakistan.
