LAHOREAkhbar Farosh Union Lahore President and All Pakistan Akhbar Faroosh Federation Chairman Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed has expressed the hope that the issues of newspaper prices and commission will be resolved amicably.

“We are earning with dignity and respect and serving the country,” said Nazir Ahmed while addressing a meeting at the Akhbar Market in Lahore.

Union Secretary General Muhammad Ilyas, Agha Amjad, Arif Shah, Tanveer Ahmed, Haji Ibrahim and Chaudhry Ashiq were among others who attended the meeting.

“The hawkers’ community is a low-income group and is affected the most by the price hike,” said Nazir Ahmed.

He said the union does not owe a single penny to anyone. He said a local English newspaper was paying two per cent less commission while the hawkers demanded 40 per cent. Hawkers are being financially exploited. He said media owners had authorised the union to decide about an increase in the prices of the newspapers.

A resolution regarding the increase in the prices of the newspapers was tabled which was adopted unanimously.
