Pakistan Press Foundation

Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) has submitted a calling attention notice in the National Assembly Secretariat about recent incidences of harassment against women in state-run television channel.

Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) including Shazia Marri, Dr Nafisa Shah, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Beelam Hasnain, Dr Shazia Sobia and Shahida Rehmani Friday submitted the calling attention notice.

The calling attention notice says, “We the undersigned would like to draw the attention of the Federal Minister for Human Rights towards the recent incidences of harassment against women in Pakistan Television Network. This year alone, two high-profile cases in the PTV came to limelight in which female anchorpersons levelled charges of harassment against their head of departments. Moreover, the harassment committee of the organisation is also being accused of displaying a biased and derogatory attitude against the victims while the culprits carry on with their lives freely.”

“The protection of dignity and honour of women is the duty of every conscientious society. Frequent emergence of such cases, especially in a particular organisation should sound alarm bells in the quarters of respective authorities. We feel for the anguish of the victims and would request that this issue should be taken on the floor of the House on an urgent basis due to its public importance.”
