Govt Pushes Major Reforms to Revamp PTV
On September 12, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced ongoing efforts to revamp Pakistan Television (PTV) into a more dynamic and profitable media organization. Addressing the National Assembly during Question Hour, the minister outlined key initiatives to modernize the state broadcaster.
Tarar highlighted the government’s plan to introduce private anchorpersons into PTV to enhance the channel’s programming and broaden its appeal. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming PTV into a financially viable entity.
Regarding employee compensation, Tarar confirmed that the minimum wage policy of 37,000 rupees for workers has already been implemented. This policy applies to all categories of PTV staff, including permanent, contractual, and temporary employees. A formal case has been moved to PTV’s Board of Directors for the official enforcement of the minimum wage policy.
Minister Tarar emphasized that PTV is dedicated to complying with government wage standards and continues to review its policies to ensure they align with legal requirements concerning employee wages and benefits.
Tarar also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making PTV a profitable media organization. He stated that efforts are being made to make PTV a vibrant media outlet through ongoing reforms.
