Govt offers to facilitate journalists’ visit to Fata

RAWALPINDI: The government has offered to facilitate a visit by foreign media representatives to tribal areas so as to reach Taliban-sponsored tribal and Pakhtoon leader Baitullah Mahsood to ascertain ground realities.

The offer came from President General Pervez Musharraf at a news conference here on Friday while responding to a question by a foreign journalist who expressed the desire to reach Baitullah Mahsood.

“You all journalists present at the conference can go to the tribal areas for the purpose and if a few of you are interested, they can also be facilitated,” the president assured.

He asked General Shaukat Sultan, DG ISPR, to help arrange the visit of the mediamen to the tribal areas.

The president quoted the

foreign media to make his point about PakistanÂ’s struggle against terrorism and to refute the

allegations being levelled aga-

inst the country by certain quarters.

He asked the newsmen “what more” is required to be done. “Pakistan cannot be made scapegoat for the failure of others. We will not permit to do so,” the president said.
