Govt keenly interested in welfare of journalists, info minister tells CPNE office-bearers
The caretaker Sindh government is keenly interested in the welfare and well-being of the journalists and media institutions in the province.
This was stated by the Sindh Caretaker Information, Social Protection and Minorities Affairs Minister Muhammad Ahmed Shah during his visit to the office of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Friday.
Shah told the CPNE office-bearers that the interim CM had assigned him the portfolio of the provincial information department keeping in view his cordial and close association with the media fraternity.
He said the Sindh government would not ignore any newspaper while issuing government advertisements. He told the CPNE members that the interim government would take steps to provide insurance coverage to the working journalists including photographers, cameramen, and editors.
He said the government would soon pay the dues to the newspapers and other publications belonging to the CPNE members. Shah said the government would take steps to strengthen the Sindh Commission for Protection of Journalists and Other Media Practitioners, and Sindh Information Commission. He also assured the CPNE members that culprits behind the killing of Sukkur-based journalist Jan Mahar would be apprehended.
