LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday gave two months to the Punjab government for revival of the Environment Protection Council (EPC).

Advocate Ahmed Qayum, secretary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, filed a petition saying the environment pollution was not being controlled due to non-functionality of the EPC.

He said citizens were not getting clean drinking water and clean air, the basic human rights.

He said the EPC came into existence two years back and it was mandatory for it to hold at least two of its sessions in a year but not a single session it held so far.

The lawyer asked the court to order the government to make the EPC functional.

The court disposed of the petition and directed the government to make the EPC functional within two months.

security system: The Lahore High Court has introduced a new security system for its premises with the coordination of Punjab Home Department and police.

Being monitored by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, a number of effective measures had been taken under the new system by strengthening boundary walls, entrance gates, construction of new observation posts and prohibition of parking in sensitive areas, according to a press release.

It said all modern and necessary security gadgets had been provided to personnel deployed on the premises. Latest CCTV camera system had also been installed for round-the-clock surveillance of the premises.
