Govt determined to make efforts for independent media: Sherry
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman on Tuesday said the government would continue to take all stakeholders on board on all issues, particularly those concerning the media.
Chairing a special meet-ing held here between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) to deliberate upon the Rules of Registration of Newspapers and Periodicals, she said the meeting was a part of the exercise.
The CPNE delegation, led by Arif Nizami, included Khushnood Ali Khan and Zahid Malik. “The government is determined to make efforts for the development of free and independent media in Pakistan,” she added.
The meeting discussed the rules for registration in detail and it was decided that subsequent to consultation with the APNS, the next joint meeting of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting with media representative bodies would be held in the first week of February.
Minister of State for Infor-mation Syed Sumsam Ali Shah Bukhari, Secretary Inform-
ation Ashfaq Gondal and other senior officials of the ministry also attended the meeting.
