‘Govt believes in freedom of media’

KARACHI: Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Media Sharmila Farooqui has said that present democratic government believed in freedom of media and expression. “In struggle for democracy, media has supported us and now it is properly highlighting the success of government.”

She was addressing a dinner hosted in honour of newly elected office-bearers of APNS, members of executive council, office-bearers of CPNE, editors of newspapers and office-bearers of Karachi Union of Journalists and Karachi Press Club here Sunday night.

She said that freedom of expression was part of manifesto of Pakistan People’s Party, adding that current government had taken practical steps for provision of relief to the public.

Criticising Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, she claimed they had forgotten the politics of serving people and were trying to get what she called a ‘cheap popularity’ by distributing laptops amongst students.
