KARACHI: Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair on Wednesday regretted the ban on media coverage of the ongoing intermediate exams imposed by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE).

The governor noted, “It has been seen by everyone that unfair means were used in the exams.”

To prevent leaks of examination papers, this year the Intermediate board had put a ban on media coverage of exams. However, reports emerged on social on Tuesday that a paper for the Intermediate second year students was leaked on various social media platforms just half an hour before the exam. The exam, however, still went ahead with the same question paper being handed out to students.

Last year, the Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had said that the intermediate board was colluding with elements who were leaking examination papers to be sold to students in the black market. The board authorities, however, dismissed the claim, saying that their staff was not involved in any crime.

While speaking to the media on Wednesday, the BISE chairperson Professor Inam Ahmed said he had personally visited all examination centers to make sure that security measures were up to date. However, he said an investigation should still be carried out in the matter, adding that it was the duty of the Education Department to oversee the investigation.

On the other hand, the college edcaution secretary shifted the blame to the board, saying that the education board’s job was just to conduct the examination.

Meanwhile, the Sindh CM House maintained that it was unaware of the ban imposed on media coverage of intermediate examination.
